T43 compatable media for CD-RW drive?

#1 Post by Cowman » Thu Jun 09, 2005 1:46 pm

None of the disks I've tried burning on my T43's burner have been good. I'm wondering if they're known to be finicky about cd-r media.

Any recomended brand?

Dunno about the T43 but I've burned about 15 TDK 52x discs in my T42 and each one came out fine.

I've had excellent experience with the Verbatum brand in all my CD burners - but only the ones made in Taiwan. I bought one one package of Verbatum's that were made in India, that I had trouble with, and on further investigation found out that they were coated with a different recording dye.

I went to Plextor's site to see which medium they supported, and there they display the actual model number of the packages they support. When I went to return the Verbatum Indian CD/R's to Micro Center, I found the Taiwan version also on the shelf. I bought them (the Taiwan version) and have never had a problem since.

I have a program called Smartburn from Lite-On that can tell what type of dye is used in the manufacture of the CD. It was a free download from Lite-On's site.
