Sierra Wireless MC7710 occasional malfunction
Hi,
I got this card via Ebay, and has been working excellently for about a year.
Now, occasinoally I get the error "this USB could work faster"...then the system loses the device. It is not in device manager. Any idea what could be the reason? thank you...
The error sometimes is corrected after restart. Thanks.

Take the card out, clean the contacts on both sides with an eraser, remove debris, then try it again.

Eraser, do you mean a rubber one, used for erasing drawing by pencil?

Yes.
I have been using the very same as this (plastic/nylon) eraser for years!
It probably dates back from my school years...

Realblackstuff:
I got really scared..I accessed the card, but that requires removing the keyboard, and the red trackpoint did not function...after disconnecting and reconnecting the weird connector of the keyboard it started working again. But the trackpoint is more important for me than the WAN, so I have to treat these disassemblies with respect...
ad "One of your country men claims to have a better (and cheaper) alternative: http://www.ebay.com/itm/301738719302" do you think it will work with an ordinary Thinkpad bios? blaclist problems...thanks

Re: Sierra Wireless MC7710 occasional malfunction
Since they are also in Prague, why don't you ask for their address/phone and also ask if you could come over to try the new card?
I think you may need a modded BIOS, but I suggest you try that new card first (and report on the forum whether it works or not).
Right now people are working on a BIOS-mod for the X230 so that you can use an X220 classic keyboard.
They are also working to remove the X230 wifi whitelist: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=120776

Re: Sierra Wireless MC7710 occasional malfunction
I corresponded with some kind of guru who makes modded bioses..I have it somewhere, as some kind of image, but I did not get around to actually find a person who has the equipment to apply the mod to the motherboard. I do not think I will go that far...life is just too short to fight like this. I got an expensive card from China that was designed for Lenovos, but was not available in the CZ republic. I contacted the dealers, and will try the card. But I just cannot waste life on Bios modding, I spilled coffe on my laptop in the past, and the motherboard may have some oxidisation problems, so it is not a good testing platform...
