Anybody able to solve the win 10 HD4000 t530 multi-display issues?

#1 Post by false_lip » Mon May 02, 2016 11:21 am

The Intel HD4000 in windows 10 works horribly, my second display flashes/resets every 10 (sometime less sometimes more) minutes. I've disabled the graphics card while docked and strickly use the NVM 5400m. The big issue with this is that my VGA port is unusable.

I'm pretty annoyed that Intel/Lenovo/Microsoft has yet to fix this graphics issue.

Anybody figure out how to fix this issue?

I'm heading back to windows 7 if no one has any ideas. Don't think I have any other options.

If you only want to use the discrete nvidia gpu, uninstall all video drivers (including optimus), reboot into bios, set the graphics setting to discrete, reboot into windows and install the stand alone nvidia driver only (not optimus).
Current Thinkpads: W530 (functional classic keyboard mod), X301, T61, T60, T43, T23, 600X, 770
Other: mk5 Toughbook cf-19, mk1 Toughbook cf-53

Will this allow me to use the VGA port and displayport? I thought the vga was tied only to the HD4000. Is that not right?

Displayport should definitely still work. Not completely sure about VGA, but on my W530, I can still use VGA and displayport at the same time with the discrete mode set in the BIOS.

If you don't want to touch anything in windows, you can test this by booting from a linux live usb/dvd medium. Go into the bios, set the gpu mode to discrete, and boot directly off the usb/dvd. If you can use both vga and displayport, then this will be the same case in windows. Else, reset the gpu mode to its previous setting.

The HD4000 keeps sneak installing it's self in windows 10, I even have discrete mode selected in the BIOS. I want to rid my computer of that buggy mess of a integrated graphics card.

You have an Ivy Bridge CPU in there.
You'd need a Haswell or better CPU to get rid of HD4000.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Oh, I forgot to mention, there should be a setting called "OS Detection for Switchable Graphics". Set it to disabled so the OS only sees the discrete card.

That did it thank you for your help that has pained me for months.

Also for the record both VGA and MDP outs work at the same time but it appears you can only have 2 displays going at a time (including laptop screen) while not using a dock.

i believe all external display connecters are connected to the nvidia directly, and not to the hd4000, so the problem might be with nvidia drivers or optimus implentation, and has nothing to do with hd4000.

I am not sure though about docking station.

if you set bios to run in deiscrete only mode, and external displays are still working, this confirms that the hd4000 have nothing to do with this issue.

No it worked, HD4000 is definitely the issue. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
