calling all 2378-fvu --ers

#1 Post by revolutionary_one » Thu Jun 09, 2005 11:46 pm

does anyone with a 2378-fvu have problems with SLEEP MODE when they do a clean install on their thinkpads?

B/c it seems when i install using the recovery discs, Sleep Mode works just fine, however, when i use my xp disc, things go unfortunately wrong.

has anyone done a clean install on their 2378-fvu and experienced problems? or do i just need to get a new xp disc

What problems are you experiencing?

I haven't done a clean install, though I did do a system rapid restore a few months back (exam software really screwed things up). The only problems I've had with sleep mode is the occasional forgetfullness of the computer. I'll close the lid and it won't go into sleep mode.

I have done clean install on my fvu, like with all computers that I get.
I have not had problem with sleep mode.

Tell us more specifically about the problem. May be we can help.

Background Info: I did a fresh install a while back using my XP disk which is quite old. The FIRST thing I did when i got things installed was use a cd that i had all the IBM drivers installed to and went ahead and installed FIRST the IBM intel chipset drivers, and then the power management, and then the battery maximizer drivers.

However, when i close the lid, the 2378-fvu does not go into sleep mode, and the sleep-moon icon on the top of the laptop doesnt seem light up. IT works with the preload state. So its not a hardware issue. I think it might have to do with my copy of XP.

Is it XP original/SP1/SP2?

sugo it's xp original.

I honestly believe this is the culprit, b/c i KNOW for a fact that the linux kernel handles the Sleep Mode effectively on the 2378-fvu. Even though ive never tried it.

I also tried downloading and installing sp1 AND sp2 on two seperate fresh installs after i installed chipset and power management drivers. NADA...

I would try fresh installing SP2. XP original was born 3 years before T42. It's not too surprising that there is compatibility issue.
