x240 Memory

#1 Post by tomad9 » Sat May 14, 2016 9:17 pm

I have a x240 with 4GB Ram. Does it make much a difference to upgrade to 8GB and if so what brands are recommended? I see Lenovo has a module for $129 for the 8GB, seems much to spend on memory. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you

This depends a lot on what you intend to do. 4GB will serve you well for web browsing and watching videos. If you will be doing heavy programming (ie. android studio apps), video editing, running VMs, or other memory intensive apps, then you will need more.

Crucial, Corsair, Hynix and Samsung are fine brands, to name a few. Just avoid the 'value' branded kinds of memory.

Thanks for reply. How is Kingston? Also I am reading (and watching video) about how easy or hard it is to take off back. Have you done it and if so how was it?
Thanks again

Kingston is fine. I haven't used an X240, so I can't say what's the best way to remove the bottom cover. There is only one ram slot, so you can upgrade to 8GB sticks.

Thank you, I ended up getting the 8GB Samsung and there was a 4GB Samsung in there, I thought it would be Hynix. Anyway it was easy enough. Thanks for feedback.
