#1 Post by ccl2341 » Fri Jun 10, 2005 7:39 am

My T42 seems to have a corrupted driver for the CD/DVD drive - does anybody know where I can find a download of this driver? I've tried a web search and all I can find is updtaes but they don't fix the problem - I want to reload the driver from scratch

Is the cd still shown in device manager and does not work in windows when you click it ?

Or it is not showing in the device manager itself ?

If the problem is the first one, i had a similar thing sometime back, had to fix via a registry fix... use this

http://www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip

BACKUP your registry and make any changes if you are comfortable with what you are doing ! if not dont proceed this route. Someone else might have a different idea, wait and see.

Search for "reinstalling device drivers" in Access IBM. The information is there in Access IBM Help.

I find the following .inf files related to the drivers installed for my CD/DVD drive. I think you only need to point the hardware wizard to cdrom.inf, but I am not positive about this. All the .inf files are found in the C:\WINDOWS\inf directory.

cdrom.inf
drvindex.inf
layout.inf
disk.inf
mshdc.inf
volume.inf
corelist.inf

The drivers installed for my CD/DVD are as follows.

cdrom.sys - Microsoft supplied
drvmcdb.sys - Sonic supplied
imapi.sys - Microsoft supplied
PxHelp20.sys - Sonic supplied
redbook.sys - Microsoft supplied
sscdbhk5.sys - Sonic supplied
storprop.dll - Microsoft supplied

The Microsoft drivers are part of Windows XP.
The Sonic drivers are part of DLA (Drive Letter Access).
You probably don't need the Sonic drivers unless you use DLA.

The above .sys files are all located in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers directory. The .dll file is located in the C:\WINDOWS\system32 directory.

DLA causes all kinds of problems with CD drives. Uninstall it and I'll be your "corruption" problem will go away.

Had the same issue with DLA on my Old, *Extremely Cruddy*, HP Laptop awhile back...Thank Goodness it isn't on my T43. :)

A Full Removal of DLA fixed it.
