A quick way would be to use a software to read hardware details like HWInfo, then google the model number or check again this list from Thinkwiki

Find a package called read-edid (or similar) from your distro's package manager and install it.

Launch a terminal window, acquire superuser privileges (via su or sudo), then type:

Code: Select all

get-edid | parse-edid
Hopefully you'll get a usable EDID string or model identifier. Run through Google and check the results.
Daily driver: X220 4291-P79 i5-2520M

In reserve: X61 T7500, X60 T2300
In pieces: X60s CS U1300 [board only], two retired but working X61Ts
RIP: 760XD 9546-U9E

In Linux you can check the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log and look for the "EDID" string, you may find the model somewhere close to that string.

Edit: I like Axur's approach more

Its best to confirm with google so you have a full PDF spec sheet etc.

However its going to be used to confirm what you already see. I have a few T400s and out of all the ones I've seen, I've only seen ONE model that has an LED screen.

I beleive they were added very late into the field and they were special order.

The CCFL panel T400s I have are all a bit sepia/grey looking, perhaps moreso given they are well over 5yrs old and have maybe thousands of hours.

My one special LED T400 looks like any other T410 type LED display...ie. cool white but otherwise, questionable quality.

This is one of the reasons why I dont buy any more T400s even though I do like the machines... the chances of getting an LED T400 is very very slim.

I have consulted with many corporates who have deployed decommissioned and still use T400 machines in the office.

Nope.

We've bought a brand new T400 directly from Lenovo less than six months after it was introduced and it sported a LED 1440x900 panel. Which was junk. And I'm being kind here.
