T601p upgrade; need some help

#1 Post by wujstefan » Thu May 26, 2016 4:48 am

Hello everyone,

I'm just getting to start a mod on T601p
I've got a beautiful UXGA already and T61 08/08 MOBO mounted inside T60p 15" case.
Upgraded BIOS so it's now Penryn-friendly.

I've heard about 800MHz -> 1066MHz FSB upgrade in this model so it could run a 25W TDP Penryn CPU's. Is it a big hit compared to - let's say - T9300 CPU?
I don't think the mod is very difficult, but would like to know your opinion about such upgrade.

Also, would it help getting the system work with CAD software? For now I must stick with a 4Gigs of RAM (since it's heckuva expensive), and a nva140m - which is not that much up to date :)

EDIT: One more thing - I've got an option to get a nice T61p MOBO with fx570m (256mb) in a reasonable price - all the typical mods for T61 also working for T61p?

If that is a T61p 14.1" non-widescreen FX570M mobo, then it will only have 128MB video RAM.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

It's from 15,4 Wide so no worries. I'm just asking if this GPU makes the difference, and whether all the mods that are typical for T61 (BIOS mod, SATA -> SATA II, hardware whitelist, Penryn unlock...) work for T61p too.

Also would like to know your opinion about 1066Fsb mod.

You do understand that fitting a 15.4" planar in a 15" shell calls for some pretty serious mods?

Yes to all.

Took a deeper look (and read) into this and it actually seems it's not possible to get a 256mb - fx570 frankie at all. Too bad ;(

And what do you think about the FSB mod? I couldn't find a single thread on this forum about that.

I recall someone did cram a 15.4" T61p into a 4:3 T60, he put the HDD in the place of the ultrabay, so you lose that. You may be able to put a Sata->MSata adapter MSata SSD into the main bay, which is what the chinese T62 with a W500 board did, but there is still not enough room to fit an Ultrabay device flush with the machine - it'd hang out. So it's not practical.

For me, first match of www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aforum.th ... frankenpad yields Install a 1066MHz FSB CPU on T61 (including Core 2 Quad).
Hope this helps. ;)

Getting prepared - most of parts I need I have on stock.

Another think I'd like to ask: I've got a T60, R60 and R61 4:3 15" chassis(es) - all of them in fairly nice condition. Which you would reccomend to use, and what eventual problems may "I face?
