How to get specs on a particular machine type? T510

#1 Post by serpico » Tue May 31, 2016 1:27 pm

I've been upgrading to a new-to-me used Thinkpad every few years, and in the past, getting the machine type allows me to get the specs from IBM or Lenovo's site. Recently asked a seller for machine type and the Lenovo support page for that machine type just lists a bunch of drivers, but no specifications.

I'm trying to figure out:
1. which processor
2. screen resolution
3. if it has discrete or only onboard graphics

Anyone know how to get this info based on machine type (or how to interpret the driver list presented to make a definitive determination on specs)?

The machine type is 4384-G25.

Some folks were sufficiently kind and resourceful to mirror the Lenovo model/type database to a separate server, and there is a link to it at the top of the forum (MTM).

Specifically for your machine, this is the answer:

Thanks! Does Lenovo no longer leave this search tool out for anyone to access?

Too bad this is the low resolution version of the T510. Surprised that it has discrete graphics, assuming I'm interpreting this correctly. Why pay more for discrete graphics only to pair it with a lower resolution display?

This CPU is slow as mud, no kidding, (2.4, 2.6 Turbo), upgrade to i5-560m from ebay. Which is much better range from 2.6GHz, 3.2GHz turbo, about 20 dollars from ebay.

Do note that i5-520m is actually slower than fastest C2D. That is the reason I say CPU upgrade is best, one day get SSD and finish memory to 8GB (matched pair).

I had similar low spec like this except this is T410, went for i7-620m, 8GB and doodads. Usable but no better than Tx20 and Tx30 but this evil twin T410 has discrete GPU while other T410 does not have GPU, just discrete GPU.
Also have T420 with discrete GPU which is nice for battery, but someday purchase T520 notebook.

Cheers, thinkpadcollection
