CD / DVD drive ejects itself frequently on T500
Hi Everyone,
I have been having a problem with the CD / DVD drive on my T500 ejecting itself frequently while I am using it and its getting very annoying! I was running Win XP and just recently did a fresh install of the 64 bit version of Win 10 Pro but the problem continues! I had thought for sure that it would be resolved with the installation of a new OS but no such luck! Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: CD / DVD drive ejects itself frequently on T500
old thread but noticed this a lot of my T420.
I found it was the full width T420 disc divese had the eect button pushing just too close to the outside of a case. Tiniest bump it and it would pop open.
Now I use ultraslim day drive.
the difference is 3mm. You can either live with the extra space or stick an index card in the or fold over a piece of gaffer tape.
I have been running 9.5,, drives in my T420 for yers. I burn lots of CDs. I go through 100 CDs every 2 months. Both my 12mm drives bit the dust after a few months. My first 9.5mm is still going very very strong dspite not making fliush contact.
I now have 7 more 9.tmm drives waiting for this one to die. I bought them all at $15 so I have no complaints. At under $3 a burner is was a no brainer to me.
Yioud on't even need to add a card above the 9.5mm slow. I have never need to. I tried once and I had to coax the card out of the drive bay.
good luck and let us know if the slimmer part works.

Please check your optical drive is not set to power saving mode as this can trick it into ejecting. on some PC they share eject and close signals

It is just a hair trigger problem. A problem that has been getting worse by the year since the IBM divestiture.

Hey Excal32,
How do I check that?
Sounds like you are saying my other option is to buy a replacement? Any reputable stores that you can recommend?
Thanks for the reply!

Hi FrankParisi,
I pulled the drive out of my thinkpad and the drive tray stays put inside its enclosure so I don't think it is mechanical. Or did you mean something else?
Sometimes it ejects itself right away and other times it clicks and whirs and then ejects. something very strange is going on in there!
Thanks!

with mine it is a matter of touching it. If I come remotely close to the eject button it opens the the disk tray.

Just a poor design, get a different model ODD from e.g. a T410/T510.

Re: CD / DVD drive ejects itself frequently on T500
Hi Frank,
I rarely use the dvd drive, so my hands never tend to be in that area. In fact, I can have it sitting on my desk and not touching the laptop at all and it will eject itself.
Weird thing is, some days it is ejecting constantly and others, like today, it hasn't ejected at all.
