mSata adapter
mSata adapter
Whilst searching these forums for something else I thought I came across a thread on mSata adapters and the X220. Now I have an mSata in the slot under the keyboard but is there an advantage to using a mSata and adapter in the primary 2.5" drive bay? At the moment I have a regular SSD in there. Just curious if using a mSata and adapter in there is a recommended mod....I could have just imagined it all!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: mSata adapter
A X220 have native mSata support so why would you want an adapter? IMO there's no benefit to a mSata adapter in the main drive by vs a straight up SSD. They way I look at it is this, is it more efficient to talk to someone via a translator vs talking directly to that person? Especially when everyone all talks English.
Re: mSata adapter
Yeah I've been searching this sub forum and I think the post I saw was for the x301. Anyway I don't suppose the X220 would be more energy efficient and lighter with regard to portability with the mSata in the drive bay?
Re: mSata adapter
An mSATA card is lighter than a regular 2.5" SSD due to having no casing etc. However, once you add the adapter that difference will reduce. In terms of power consumption, I don't think there would be much difference for the two formats of the same drive: with screen and WiFi an X220 is around 10 Watts idle, whether your idle SSD takes 10 or 50 or mW is then at most a 0.5% improvement in battery life.

Re: mSata adapter
mSATA slot in *20 series is SATA II while the main bay is SATA III, just something to bear in mind.
