cuda and hybrid qraphics question

#1 Post by ianb527 » Sun Jul 24, 2016 1:18 am

I am setting up an W520 with hybrid graphics. I am not a gamer and don't do CAD stuff so I figure the built in graphics should do fine for me. I would like to fool around with CUDA however (mainly just learning/curiosity). I was wondering if there is anything that prevents you from using the nvidia chip for cuda stuff while at the same time using the built in graphics for the display.

cuda and hybrid qraphics question

first thing. Hybrid graphic is the term that Microsoft use for Windows 10. In Nvidia it's called Optimus.
Optimus doesn't do it's job on Windows 10.

In my W520, BIOS options is to set Display to Optimus, and Enable OS detection for Optimus.

Inside Windows, as long as you're not plug an external monitor to your Discrete Graphic (1000M/2000M), a Supported CUDA certified applications will still use your Quadro CUDA resources.

Alternatively, you can set which applications to utilize CUDA, etc on Nvidia Control Panel under Manage 3D Application Settings.

If it support PhysX, set your PhysX processing to Quadro card. Under PhysX config
