T500 and windows 7 and recovery CDs DVDs

#1 Post by cadillacmike68 » Fri Aug 12, 2016 10:54 pm

I'm thinking about getting a T500 (last of the 15.4" 16:10 displays, some parts interchangeable with T61, native SATA in the ultrabay, less expensive RAM, etc). And, they both use the advanced dock and take the same batteries - right?

I gather from reading that the T500 did not originally have the Windows SLIC (or whatever it's called) in its BIOS, but that there is a Lenovo BIOS update to do this. Am I correct?

What recovery DVD set do I need for W7 pro 64? Will the sets for T400 / 410 work with the T500 or do I need to pay Lenovo for another set?

From there I can figure things out. Thanks in advance.

I've got Windows 7 recovery sets that originally were for T400, T410 and T420 - all have worked (and activated) on both SLIC 2.1 modified T61s as well as my T400/410/420 and W520. They are all OEM stickered for Windows 7 though.

The T400/500 was the first model that had Windows 7 as an OEM option (late in the production run) so the newest BIOS out there should have SLIC 2.1 from the factory. The T500 will use the same battery as the 15.4" T61 and T60, and also works with the T6x docks.

That's what I read. The T400 and T500 both came out in 2008 when W7 didn't exist yet, but I saw BIOS updates on Lenovo's site for it.

I bet they still have whitelists in the BIOS for only certain WiFi cards though...

Indeed they do. So you'll need a modded BIOS anyway...

Is there something like a Middleton equivalent for the T500 or do I need to just keep the factory WiFi card?

Looks like my discs will for for the T500. They sayT410, T510. and they work on theT61s.

Bump:

Does anyone know of a WiFi whitelist removal BIOS flash for T500s?

This one worked for me, I used Winphlash as well. I was able to install an Atheros out of an HP Pavilion into a T500 with this bios flashed.
