LED Lit Frankenpad Questions
LED Lit Frankenpad Questions
I traded and paid for this Frankenpad:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=121391
a factory LED-backlit 1600x1200 UXGA Hydis AFFS LCD screen.
T9300 CPU (2.5GHz), (4 + 2 = ) 6GB RAM, Intel 6205 abgn wireless card
Is there anyway to confirm that the display is in fact as stated without
removing it? Powerstrip will not read EDID from it.
Odd when I run Win 7 64 bit the brightness control doesn't work, but it
does work under Win 7 32 bit. This might be a driver problem?

Re: LED Lit Frankenpad Questions
Brightness is hardware controlled, at least for stock T6*. If you go into the BIOS, you should be able to press the function keys to adjust brightness.
As for testing whether it is an led without taking off LCD bezel:
1. Set the display brightness to maximum and shutdown the laptop for at least a few hours.
2. Turn the laptop on and immediately enter the BIOS.
3. If the screen is CCFL, you will see that it will be fairly dim and then get noticeably brighter after a few minutes. You can use a camera to help.
To make sure it is LED, you should only need to remove the LCD bezel to expose the inverter. If it is led, the inverter will be modified with extra wires.

Re: LED Lit Frankenpad Questions
Thanks, I also want to swap the entire lid onto my other Frankenpad,
I assume all the motherboards have the same connector so that if I
move the cable with the lid it will all work, is that right?
Thanks!

First and foremost, that is a Hydis LED in there. The member you bought it from was amongst the first ones to perform this mod.
Yes, it's plug & play.Pete B wrote:Thanks, I also want to swap the entire lid onto my other Frankenpad,

Re: LED Lit Frankenpad Questions
It is a (power management) driver issue in Windows 7. The same thing happens to other old laptops of mine without good support, like Vaio SZ330p. You should still be able to adjust the brightness in Control Panel -> Power Options, just not with the Fn+Home or Fn+End shortcuts. Sometimes the adjustable brightness meter doesn't even show up in Power Options!

Re: LED Lit Frankenpad Questions
Thanks for that info.
Interesting that Powerstrip will not read the EDID in 32 or 64 bit Win 7,
perhaps I do need an XP install as some others have mentioned.
I've tried it on so many systems that I can't remember exactly which
ones it worked on, I think a T60 with Win 7 32 bit.
