Recovery Disc options Cross machine compatibility?

#1 Post by blink » Sat Aug 27, 2016 4:40 pm

Hi All, From experience which recovery discs seem to have the best cross machine compatibility. Is there a golden set to try & get?
I currently have 2 t400 4 X200/s & have just bought a T420s ? Im thinking of either selling a couple on or passing on to family members as a little upgrade who currently have x61s & T60 & getting rid of those. I could do with loading win 7 64 if possible on them also the T420s only has Win 7 32.
I have read the odd post where people have been able to use same discs of different machines. Is there a golden set to try & get? Also one or 2 may have originally been vista, does this make a difference. Some coa stickers are no longer legible :(
Thanks for any help.
Many Thanks for any advice, shared knowledge & wisdom is a wonderful thing.

If you can put a (modded) BIOS with Slic2.1 in each of the machines you want to "recover",
your best bet is the Lenovo Recovery set with W7-Pro/Sp1 64-bit from a T420
Works in most anything from R6x/T6x/X6x upwards.

Many Thanks for the reply RBS. Do not normally like messing with bios after bad experience in the past but I will look at putting in a slic2.1 if needed.
That sounds ideal but When you say my best bet is the Lenovo Recovery set with W7-Pro/Sp1 64-bit. Is that the name of the disc set? Most i see listed are for specific models? Sorry if this sounds dumb but also how many discs are in the set so i can make sure i get the right thing?
Thanks

I believe anything from a T400 recovery set (or newer) should work. Number of disks per set may vary but four is usually the case (two R&R and two Product Recovery).

edit: You also have a PM from me.

My set only has 2, but then again it is only for 64 bit. The 32 bit set is another 2 discs. But they were sold separately by Lenovo! :x

Thanks Mike a forum member very kindly sorted me out with a set for T420s 4 discs 2 for 7 64 and 2 for drivers. They work fine on my T400 not tried on any other machine yet as unfortunately my T420s arrived with some issues that i am trying to sort out with the seller. Will try on one of my X200s also when i get the time.
