Stumped by Card Reader Issue in Windows 10

#1 Post by ArtShapiro » Wed Sep 07, 2016 9:56 pm

I have three Thinkpads running Windows 10: an X61, an R61 and a T500. As an aside, while Device Manager shows numerous "weird" Ricoh hardware entities on all of them, only the R61 actually shows a Card Reader device.

Although they've all been running Windows 10 since the beginning a year + ago, in the last few months all have the same issue: The card reader only works when the machine is booted up on a total restart. If the machine wakes up from sleep or hibernation, an inserted card is not recognized. The reader flashes once, and that's it. On a restart, insertion of the card causes the reader to obviously flash multiple times as Windows successfully recognizes the card and its directory.

Any theories out there? I'm not sure how to attack the issue and certainly prefer to hibernate my machines rather than going through a total shutdown.

I would do one or both of the following choices :

- install Windows 10 Anniversary Update (ver.1607) to see if it installs better drivers
(https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... ing_client)

- install "Driver Booster" to see if it has newer drivers for the Ricoh device
(http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details ... _beta.html)
.... it might also help if any suggested Intel chipset drivers are also updated

Both done long ago - but thanks! I've been on the "fast" cycle from Day 1, and am a regular user of Driver Booster.
