LCD cable pushes keyboard up.
Hello.
I bought t61 to learn laptop cleaning and repairing.
I took it part and put it together again and now only big problem is that lcd cable is pushing keyboard up.
Tried to tape it to bottom case, but if i move lcd, then cable moves, tape comes off and keyboard goes up.
If keyboard is 90 degress then keyboard is about 1mm higher than frame above it, but when it is 180 degrees then it is about 2 mm higher that above frame.
I did not give much attention to that cable when i took laptop a part. Is there some kind of trick?

Re: LCD cable pushes keyboard up.
The brown bits left and right of the black LCD-cable part (coming out of the lid) look wrong to me.
There shouldn't be any reinforcement strip there.
Remove it and you should be OK. (Interferes with keyboard bezel height).
Turned out they were holes in the chassis with brown background underneath.
Also, check the bit that holds the 3 antenna wires down on the clamp, is that too high?
Is the LCD-cable connector properly fitted over the motherboard-connector?
What is the 7-character TYPE of that laptop? (no S/N needed)
See label on bottom of laptop.

Make sure the plastic clips on the keyboard bezel underside are getting inside the gray sockets of the magnesium when installing. Improperly seated clips will cause the most bulging, more than the LCD cable could.
You can bend the Lid backwards --sorry, forwards to pull the LCD cable taut when installing the keyboard bezel, but it really should not get in the way.

Yeah, I get this, too. It's definitely because the adhesive that originally held the ribbon cable against the frame doesn't do its job any more after pulling it up a few times. I suppose putting some new glue down on it would probably help it, but I don't worry too much about it. It doesn't really cause any problems at least on my system. It's just the top of the keyboard part between the ThinkVantage and power buttons that bulges a bit and when the screen is closed it doesn't do it at all.

Thank you all for feedback.
RealBlackStuff, s/n: L3-T1904 07/12
LCD-cable connector seems properly fitted, antenna wires bit seems also ok.
Where is reinforcement strip exactly ?
TPFanatic, i check that tomorrow.
Sweater Fish Deluxe, i try to put better tape in coming days and see how it goes.
I also try to make some better pictures.

Re: LCD cable pushes keyboard up.
Your machine is a T61, either
15.4" widescreen TYPE 6457-B96 or
14.1" non-widescreen TYPE 8889-02U
I wanted only the TYPE (no S/N needed means: we don't need the S/N).
Turned out the "strip" were holes in the chassis with brown background underneath.

Re: LCD cable pushes keyboard up.
Here's what you have to look for:
http://i.imgur.com/emg86dS.jpg <- Little plastic hooks, encircled
http://i.imgur.com/95QmNyr.jpg <- Holes in the Magnesium, pointed
http://i.imgur.com/klBinOm.jpg <- This is what you DO NOT want, THIS <- is the keyboard bezel simply placed on top of the hooks, as you can see it is bowing upwards!
http://i.imgur.com/mZ9ikv1.jpg <- You have to position the keyboard bezel so that the hooks are next to the holes, then maneuver the bezel so that the hooks slide into the holes.
http://i.imgur.com/3EKh1wO.jpg <- The optimal result has the center of the keyboard bezel flat because the hooks have caught and are holding it down. Success!!
