Drivers needed for my 385XD

#1 Post by dafivehole » Sat Sep 24, 2016 8:57 am

Windows 98 is telling me that I need drivers for:

WAN Miniport (ATW)
Wave Device for Voice Modem

Where can I get these drivers?

Thank you,
Roger

Welcome to the forum!

Click on the "Drivers" link at the top of this page, choose your model and proceed from there.

Good luck.

Thank you, I didn't see that. After looking through the drivers, I can't seem to find the two that I need. I'm assuming that they are network and sound card related?

Thank you,
Roger

It doesn't look like a sound card issue to me. More something along the lines of the 56K modem actually supporting voice for using it as a "regular" phone, something that is unlikely to work on anything but a conventional dialtone running over a twisted copper pair...

I'd start with installing the chipset driver and check whether that clears anything. Please do bear in mind that I haven't touched *anything* running W98 for well over a decade so I'm likely to be extremely rusty.

Secondly, are you intent on actually using the modem?

Not trying to use the modem... just trying to have all of the drivers set up correctly... I guess I'm a little anal-retentive

The 385XD is the cousin of the 380XD (don't remember the difference), I don't remember any 380 models coming with a modem or Ethernet port from the factory (I know neither my 380ED or 380Z have a built-in modem or even any provisions for one); might it be a PCMCIA card modem?

Looking at the ThinkWiki page for these models - that I'm really not familiar with - your information seems to be correct. Now I'm even more confused...

It does have an IBM PCMCIA card in it... I just think that it's weird that the only upgrade done was from Win95 to Win98 and all other drivers are good... like I said earlier, maybe I'm just splitting hairs here
