Best ThinkPad for Data Science Student

#1 Post by xeono15 » Fri Sep 30, 2016 1:08 pm

Hello everyone, I'm new on the forum
I must say that you have a good community here

Anyways my situation is as follows:

I'm a college student who is focused on data science, so next I like to experiment with machine learning and deep learning and am interested in learning more about gpu, and I would like to know which laptop would allow me to do that.
I'm in love for the thinkpad.
I do not have much money to buy some powerful workstation that allows me to do so. I would like to know that it would be more. I want it to be good enough so that maybe you can upgrade to i7 and last long.

Budget $ 1000 ~ $ 1500

Thanks :D :D

New or used? For used I would go with a W530 with 3720qm (or above), K2000M, FHD 95% gamut screen, and classic keyboard mod, if you prefer it to the chiclet. Add any SSD or RAM you want and its still very, very, capable for far less than $1000. Cpu performance is still often on par with many of the upper end skylake ones found in the new P50 and P70.
Current Thinkpads: W530 (functional classic keyboard mod), X301, T61, T60, T43, T23, 600X, 770
Other: mk5 Toughbook cf-19, mk1 Toughbook cf-53
