T500 powers back up if AC adapter is disconnected or screen lid closed

#1 Post by cadillacmike68 » Thu Oct 06, 2016 11:36 pm

I have a T500 that passes all diag checks but when I shut it down it powers back up if i close the lid or disconnect the ac adapter! I have to quickly remove the battery before it reboots into windoze. I can then reconnect the battery and it will not try to power back up on its own.

OS is win7 pro 64
I have hibernate disabled, power button is set to power off, no wake on Lan, or anything like that.

Any ideas?

My best guess would be something along the lines of a messed-up charging circuit on the motherboard.

Just for S&G, have you tried another battery in that system?

Not yet, but I will. I have a dozen bats for this and my T61s

OK, I tried a new (only one prior use and that was when I initially charged it up a month ago) battery and it does the same thing. :x

It's a back burner issue for now. I'll try an absolute bare bones config, maybe take out PM, etc. and I'll re-run the diag tests.

I wanted to use this as my new travel-business machine, but not if its acting like this. The old T61s are running fine, and I'm on one now.

My T520 will sometimes not go to sleep when closing the lid. Sometimes it does. Other times when the lid is closed it will go to sleep and 15 seconds later wake up again.

When I use the Fn-F4 combo it always nods right off and doesn't re-awaken, but last night it did. Woke up 10 seconds after I put it to sleep. First time for that.

This is the only system I have that does this. In the past I had a E530 that would never sleep consistently either.

I don't put much faith in the Lenovo Power Manager program nor Windows 7 either. Frankly, I don't think it's the software if both apps are allowing this to happen. It's a hardware glitch somewhere that I've never been able to track down so I just live with it. If I pack it up to go somewhere I make certain it is shutdown all the way and remove the battery.

Mika,

I don't want it to sleep or do anything when I close the lid, because I sometimes use it in the advanced dock. I think I have that set correctly. but I'll check again.

When I want it off, I use Shutdown. But it won't stay off.

I might end up doing what you do, remove battery and shut it down. Now that I'm back home, I can try removing components and digging into BIOS to see it it is a component / option that is causing this.
