2668-92U vs. 97U why the big price difference ?

#1 Post by MarcW » Mon Jun 13, 2005 8:44 pm

I got a quote today for these two machines and the 97U is almost $200 more. The only difference is the wireless card. The 97U uses IBM II a/b/g while the 92U comes with the Intel 2915ABG. Anyone know why the IBM card is so much more ? I've read that people have had problems with earlier Intel cards. But is the IBM card really worth $200 more ?

Thanks,
-MarcW

The are indeed exactly the same except the wireless card. I would say not worth it but there are people who swear by atheros.

That's really odd because when I was searching for my models, a IBM abg and an Intel 2915abg never differed in price. Ever.

I guess this is an exception, but it's not really okay. My new T43p has an Intel (I didn't want to use the Atheros chipset because that means I have to use the madwifi driver on linux, maintained by a person who is incredibly difficult to deal with when he does something wrong; don't get me wrong though, his work is excellent).

I would choose to go with the Intel one only because the price difference don't really make much sense.[/b]
