If you plan on getting a T61 afterwards, I'd say keep the T410. You really won't make much of a difference and you will be getting a big performance hit.

However, if you have a spare T61 and just want to sell the T410, it *may* be worth it.

Your T410 won't bring in much money. And the T61 was a reliability headache! Keep the 410 and forego you Starbucks latte for a couple of weeks!

A T61 is fine if you've never used a T410 before. To be fair you could get used to a high speed T61 w/4Gb and a 900p screen running Intel GFX and and ssd, hopefully with 11agn wireless.

Not that big of a performance difference, the biggest problem will be affording more than 4GB of DDR2 RAM. Any more than that and you'll be spending so much you might as well keep the T410. Maybe go to like a R500 if you'll save that much but want to keep the DDR3 support. DDR2 prices are really going to make going back to a *61 useless financially unless you really don't need more than 4GB or already have the DDR2 sitting around.

Yes, sell the T410. Be careful picking a T61, several have a bad NVidea chip.

The comments saying the price difference is not significant, are from people in the US assuming you too are in the US. Malysia has an average salary of about $11,000 USD per year, 1/5th of that in the US.

What are the prices for a T410 and T61 in Malysia?

If there is no other possible way to cover your financial situation aside from selling your T410 then sell it. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made. I've done it a few times with items (including tech) when times got tough. As always those items for the most part were replaceable. One thing to consider as forum member excal32 mentioned perhaps you could find an R500, T400, or T500. Not exactly sure how the Intel X3100 of the Intel T61 fares against the more recent Intel 4500MHD (in the T/R400/500 series or the Intel 5700MHD (that is in your current T410). Personally I like my laptops to be able to decode higher quality video from the internet without too much of a struggle.
