x230 keeps shutting down with no reason

#1 Post by igni » Wed Oct 19, 2016 4:14 am

Hi Folks!

The thing is my x230 keeps shutting down with no reason after swap of HDD to SSD. To be honest I was skeptical about the swap being the cause of the problem so I checked the CPU temp during heavy loads, all the drivers including BIOS. Worth to mention is that I am using double boot. win7 + ubuntu. However no matter the system this laptop still has this error, in fact it even shuts down during DOS drive scan. It happens when charging or on only battery powered state.
I really do not have any other ideas where to look to check the cause of the problem. :help:

Thanks in advance!

My A30 shuts down if you use it a bit intensively under charging state and I discovered that it was my battery that was overheating. Its batt reaches 60-65 degrees before it shuts down

Here is a similar thread:

My x230 has done it a few times in the approx 1 year I have been running Win 10, ie much less than under Win 7.
Regardless of usage and whether the power plug is plugged in, it can go randomly to sleep mode. Sometimes I can wake it up again, sometimes a cold reboot is needed.

I never had such issue with water leakage. In fact as far as I know thinkpad have some keyboard protection against water spillage.

Nevertheless I wonder if there is some surveillance program that monitors the hardware and in worst case scenario of such power off can detect last command or hardware error and put it in log file?

Try replug the battery and if no go try reinstalling the power management driver. Then if not try replacing the main batt

Does the same issue occur when you remove SSD and install HDD back?

I just finally found a solution to push 9,5mm thick hdd into the bay and the problem is solved.
48h of work without any sudden shut down.

Thank You
