Frankenpad, my journey

#1 Post by mathuisella » Fri Oct 21, 2016 3:45 am

G'Day everyone, well new to these forums after browsing for a while.

So, my story...

I've been doing a programming class at university here in Brisbane ( C programming ) and oh how painful it was to use my x220 with it's limited amount of displayed code on the screen.

So, I've ordered off ebay a T520, but then found out about the QXGA 4:3 sceens :O

So, i've sold my x220 ( i7 8GB ram in 9/10 condition for $275 with no HDD's )

I managed to find a t60 with 4:3 screen that's broken, screen looks to be intact and same with the shell, just the t60 innards are broken.

Unfortunately a t61 14.1 in 4:3 has been so difficult to find :(

I saw there was someone was selling kits on here ( for t61 14.1 4:3 motherboards ) , but for the life of me cannot seem to find that thread.

If anyone has some tips that would be great, oh and it seems i've found a source for the QXGA screens here in Australia where they have dusty old stock in the corner of a warehouse

This frankenpad i'd prefer an intel GPU due to the power savings ( on battery ) and the reliability due to the GPU manufacturing faults.

Welcome to the Forum.

We have a well-respected member (TuuS) on the Forum, who regularly sells such mobos.
He's probably the only person left on this planet who has these NOS (New Old Stock) boards with the new improved nVidia NVS140M GPU.
They all have those chips dating from 2010 or 2011 and don't show any of those infamous GPU failures.
You can read all about them here: http://www.theboardroom.info/t61motherboard.html
In this respect I work closely with TuuS to literally bring "joy to the world"!
In other words, there's no longer any reason for NOT getting an nVidia mobo.

But like you said, finding an Intel version may be hard(er).
I have such a 14.1" 4:3 T61 (8895-01U) with Intel GPU in very nice condition.
It has been upgraded with Middleton's BIOS, SXGA+ LCD and wifi-N.
But I'd only sell the whole machine, not just the motherboard itself.
Send me a PM if interested.
FYI: shipping cost from USA to Australia is ca. US$70
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
