Need x200s windows 7 display driver... Only display option is 50hz

#1 Post by BrothahHeffay » Tue Oct 25, 2016 4:51 am

Tried all of them I could find, they all still say my only available refresh rate is 50hz no matter what battery setting either. There is very bad screen tearing when dragging a window or scrolling so i assume there is something wrong.

Any help is appreciated!

Download and install Driver Booster 4 for free. It will search for any drivers you are missing and update all of the others.

It's much faster and more thorough than a Windows update.

Nope, still 50hz and choppier than anything, seems like a decent utility though thanks!

Some questions:

1) How much memory is installed in the system? Intel 4500MHD uses shared memory.
2) What is the screen resolution?
3) What is the color depth/quality?
4) Internal or external monitor?

2) 1440x900
3) both 16bit and 32bit are 50hz
4) internal

EDIT: Output from linux

Code: Select all

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1440 x 900, maximum 32767 x 32767
LVDS1 connected primary 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 261mm x 163mm

   800x600 60.32 56.25
   720x450 50.00
   640x480 59.94
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
VIRTUAL1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
And in windows over vga, external monitor could output 60hz but there was still tearing even on that display. Is my display just junk then?

Thanks for the help

I would say that the "tearing" is probably due to the relatively underpowered Intel graphics processor. I don't have an X200s with me at the moment but I might be able to check later tonight when I get home, although I don't believe that I have Windows 7 on any of them so it won't be an apples-to-apples comparison.

If it really bothers you, you can disable the display of the window contents when dragging. Go to the System Properties panel; right-click on Computer, click Properties, click Advanced system settings, click Advanced tab, then Settings. Scroll down the Custom list for "Show window contents while dragging" and deselect the check box, then click Apply/OK.

Edit: Have you tried searching the archives at Intel? https://downloadcenter.intel.com/produc ... Processors might be a start.

Well that's not the only issue, there's very obvious choppiness when scrolling that makes reading a pain as well.

I have an X201 with X200s LED-display (1440x900) @ 50Hz, perfect using W7/SP1 32-bit and PaleMoon, browsing the forum.

No choppiness? I find that hard to believe only because my screen looks pretty rough.

I also have 2 more X200s machines with the same X200s LED-display (1440x900).
None of them has any choppiness.
I'd say you have a hardware problem, rather than a driver problem!
If interested, I'll sell you one.

This might sound off-tangent, but have you ever cleaned the heatsink and replaced the thermal paste? Maybe the northbridge (with built-in graphics) is almost overheating, which could cause the tearing.
