X201 Tablet vs X131E

#1 Post by swallman » Tue Oct 25, 2016 10:20 am

So I purchased a refurbished X201 Tablet about a week ago at a great price ($120) but now see that I can get an X131E refurbished for $200. Wondering if it would be worth taking the X201 back and getting the X131E instead? Anyone have a good comparison?

I know the X131E has USB 3.0 and HDMI out, how do they compare performance-wise? I LOVE the keyboard on the X201

Keep the tablet! Its almost 3x faster and has a better screen, keyboard, and better overall quality.

I haven't touched an X131e but I have used an X121e and the build was nice (plastics even felt better than on my W530), although the screen, keyboard, and touchpad were absolute garbage.

In addition to previous comments the X201 Tablet also has docking capability. With a dock the gains would include:
  • more USB ports
  • optical drive (could insert HDD via adapter for more storage space)
  • displayport (outputs both sound+video)
The docks can be had quite cheap via ebay these days. Just be sure to read the fine print as some sellers exclude an optical drive in the sale. Good luck!

Sorry to disappoint everyone but I ended up going with the X131e. However, this is the Intel i3 chip which according to benchmarks is similar in performance to the i5 that was in the tablet.

The X131e is a bit heavier but also comes with a larger (6-cell) battery (I know you can get a larger battery for the X201 however).

For myself these were the benefits of the X131e:

HDMI included
USB 3 included
BT included
Better/larger battery
Windows 10 Pro license and 10 already installed/supported (although I was able to upgrade the X201 to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Pro license).
Can upgrade to 16GB of RAM (I know specs say 8GB but multiple people have no issues running with 16GB).

I plan to do the memory upgrade and replace the 320GB HD with a 1TB SSD.

This thing (X131e) has turned out to be better than I thought...I was able to drop a 128GB SSD mSATA drive into the slot where the WWAN card would go...so I now have Windows 10 installed and booting off that...
