X220: LCD Bezel Separation LHS

#1 Post by leezer3 » Wed Oct 26, 2016 5:09 am

Have finally got as far as replacing my trusty Z61M, and now have my hands on an X220.

Paid an absolute bargain price for this, and it's in very good nick, other than the one issue it was advertised with-
The LCD bezel is separating along the left-hand side of the display.

Have had a brief look, and it would appear to have one clip near the top, which isn't doing anything at all.
No further clips all the way to the bottom.

Without having seen the intact item, I'm unsure as to whether there should be (Logically to me...) a series of clips running all the way down the bezel, or possibly a single second clip missing at the bottom?

I'm aware that this seems to be a relatively common issue, and I can easily and cheaply get my hands on a replacement bezel, or the alternative would be a little epoxy/ decent glue, but as I didn't see the unbroken article, I don't know whether it's damage to the magnesium screen frame itself (Epoxy!), or whether a bezel will solve things :)

Anyone with advice?
Not sure if the HMM would contain full details on exactly how the bezel attaches, need to have a look in there too.

This one shows relatively good pictures: http://www.ebay.com/itm/401200281622
Compare with your bezel for missing clips etc.
Optional repair: double-sided tape between bezel and metal LCD-frame.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Thanks :)

Large clip in the center appears to be missing. Very hard to tell about the others, but I think one or two of those are gone as well.

I'll try tape first, but will probably put a bezel on order to be on the safe side.

Replacement bezel installed, and now in perfect condition :)

For the reference of future users looking in this thread, this one was purchased:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321933345645? ... EBIDX%3AIT
(15 day delivery from China to UK)

Appears identical to the original, down to the text on the rear of the plastic moulding.
No camera sticker or model trim supplied, so had to carefully detach these from the original- I'd reccomend using the edge of a fine craft blade to pull them up. Don't push from the bottom, as the glue is too strong.

Wow, thank you for this. I was disappointed that I couldn't find a bezel with proper Lenovo marks. It's good to know that I will able to transfer those. A sharp pointed knife does wonders (same methods as for the bezel screw covers).

What I'd add is, when removing the bezel, try to push it _inwards_ so the latches can release. I foolishly used a plastic prying tool and broke at least 4 latches. Use your hands only, see
