Safe to use 65w adapter with nvidia t410?

#1 Post by TPFanatic » Thu Nov 03, 2016 4:20 pm

I have an nvidia powered T410 currently, and it came with a 65w adapter. Is this sufficient to power the 35w Cpu + ??w Gpu + whatever else -- or should I use a 90w adapter?

I don't know all the implications, but I know the nVidia T410s by default throw an error after POST stating performance might be limited without the 90W adapter. I've used them with the 65W adapter though and they appear to function properly...

The factory specifies using the 90W adapter. I would go with their recommendation unless you absolutely must use the laptop for some critical task, and only for a short period of time doing something which will not overly stress the system (charging an almost depleted battery, while running software that transcodes video clips).

Use the bigger adapter, if possible. At worse, you'll create a fire risk and your computer won't be able to operate at it's potential. At best, you'll overheat the adapter and over time, it will fail prematurely.

Well it's a good thing I have an extra 90w adapter. Thanks everyone!

What? Not my Nvidia T410.

Both my nvidia 410/420s dont throw up a 90w warning and work fine with 65w.

I do have random external gpu lenovos in the 15" class that do.

Are quad core CPU T series computers going to work fine with 90w adapters? I have a T530 that came with a outraged SECOND gen i3 and 90w power supply. Is there any larger wattage adapters for T5xx series?

I believe there are 120/135w adapters for the W700 line which works in the T series but they are expensive psus and they dont do anything for performance.

They dont harm though.

The first time the machine throws the warning after POST, you have the option to clear it permanently. Chances are that's why you don't get a warning.

The nVidia T420s don't seem to care if you attach a 65W adapter.

That's why my friend has a larger power supply brick than mine... His T520 is non-officially assembled version so he has a 120W power supply. I just wanted to confirm if my 90W supply would work with upgraded i7....

I have a T520 modded with an i7-2630QM that will only boot if I use a 135W PSU from my W510 or the original 170W from a W520, no chance with 90W in my case... :|

Okay my question arise again. Is my 90W adapter able to handle i7-3840QM on my T530 or where can I find a better, bigger adapter?
