T520 Audio Amp

#1 Post by MikalE » Sat Nov 12, 2016 8:17 am

Has anyone ever replaced the audio amp in a T520? I mean the audio amp for the on-board speakers, not the audio amp for the headphone or line-out (if they are indeed separate).

When at home, I usually run the line-out to a 500 watt home theater amp, but on the go, as you know, the audio level pretty much sucks from the T520.

In contrast, the audio sounds very good on both of my T510's. I wonder if an amp could be pulled from a damaged T510 MB and replaced on the T520 MB.

Any thoughts?

The T510/W510 uses: HD AUDIO CODEC CX20585-10Z-GP (or -11Z-GP)
The T520/W520 uses: HD AUDIO CODEC CX20672-21Z-GP
Both are made by Conexant.
I suggest you compare their specs.

I use a Stoner UD120 for on the go. It's the next best thing. Alternatively, if it HAS to be internal, you could either get an Indigo Echo ExpressCard or get something like a UD110 and a mPCIe to USB adapter and wire it all up internally.

Thanks. I'll have a look at that Indigo Echo card. Maybe that will fix this issue once and for all.

The Echo Indigo express cards are fantastic when run through external Hi Fi. They do 24/96 audio and you can really tell. They also provide a very loud signal out and a brilliant headphone output too. Not sure if they still make them though. Seen some on Ebay. (not cheap).

You can get a noticeable boost to audio quality and volume using sound enhancement software, such as Bongiovi DPS (freeware) and DFX (free-to-try).

The audio quality is very bad on T530 also. I moved from R61e and my question was, where is my beautiful, dynamic sound. Dolby system is doing nothing, the sound is compressed and flat.

I just installed this. It gives an incredible boost to not only the available volume, but to the clarity and equalization of the sound as well.

It sounds better now than even my E530 did.
