ThinkPad A30, A31p + Original ThinkPad Dock + Radeon 9250 256mb --> not enough system resources

#1 Post by kfzhu1229 » Fri Nov 18, 2016 8:25 pm

I have this full size pci Radeon 9250 256mb (All-in-Wonder) lying around so I think it would be nice to have it as fail-safe to the death of GPU problem. However on that original ThinkPad dock (which does not work with T4x/R5x and I do NOT have dock II), no matter which A3x (Also the same for my T22 and T23), what RAM configuration, what devices have been disabled both in bios and device manager, it simply wouldn't run the driver and tell me not enough system resources in Windows 7. Its definitely not the driver's fault as it works on my Dell OptiPlex GX520 in XP and Windows 7 just fine. I did the same thing with a Radeon HD 3450 512mb PCI and same thing. Is there any way to deal with this problem?

My guess is that it's lacking a proper driver for the dock, which would tell it that it needs to reserve resources for potential PCI devices behind the dock. Given how old the dock is, there may not be a driver available.
