How to properly add a second HDD to my T410s?
How to properly add a second HDD to my T410s?
Hello, people. I have a ThinkPad T410s with 1.8" SSD, but it has only 128GB, and I need some additional storage, while I don't use a CD/DVD burner. I saw a lot of "caddys" that can be used as adapter for HDD 2.5 -> CD/DVD. But we, ThinkPad users have an "Ultrabay" and I'm not sure that this one suits with Ultrabay.
For example this one (maybe it will appear in Russian, sorry about that ;D ).

This one comes with 12.7mm height, but there are 9mm ones.
So anyone having experience to do such replace?

Option 'ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III'
Look for authentic Lenovo accessory 43N3412, 'ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III'. Other part numbers, which might increase search results, are: (ASM 43N3414, FRU 43N3415), (ASM 43N3428, FRU 43N3429).
Re: Option 'ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III'
Thanks a lot, man, I found some using 43N3412 part number on Aliexpress, it costs around 10$. I wonder if T400s and T410s have both similar Ultrabays.automobus wrote:...

I got what I think are a couple of knock-off - clones, whatever. They seen to work, but there is no drive activity LED.automobus wrote:Look for authentic Lenovo accessory 43N3412, 'ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III'. Are there any dangers to the system and / or HDD from using one of these?

I have a few similar to what you've posted, and nothing has fried.
Just make sure that you have an insulator sheet inbetween the drive
and the caddy.
I've bought from this seller, they are reliable:

Yes, I use the thin plastic insulator sheet on the ones I got as well. The adapters won't take a drive with the Lenovo caddies screwed on, so that sheet is essential.

Re: How to properly add a second HDD to my T410s?
In fact these adapters caddies do have black vinyl sheet but they were not stuck down with stickers or tape. So what I did was take bottom off, correctly positioned the sheet by marking where it is with metal bottom to the caddy without sheet using permanent ink pen and secure vinyl sheet edges with kapton tapes. Reassemble.
Sometimes for any chinese ultrabay caddies, sometimes the SATA connector is off center in relation to rest of caddy then HD will not slide in, All I do is shave tiny sliver of plastic off these two nubs on one side. Still works without HD becoming loose. Cannot shift the circuit board due to ultrabay connector and caddy's sata connector is engineered off-center due to both solder pads and SATA keyed to circuit board.
Cheers, thinkpadcollection
