I reseated the modem years ago after I upgraded (from XP) to W7. But, as the modem connects and works (send/receive), I have to assume it's properly seated. Never tried another modem and as long as the one I have works as-is (w/o sound) I probably won't. I have a Bluetooth/Modem card. Bluetooth itself works fine when activated. It's deactivated via Fn-F5.

I just ran a PC-Doctor 5 modem test with these results:

Yes, I have checked the settings and everything seems fine.

Playback works okay, albeit sometimes with a slight time lag. Under Tab Sounds, not sure what to look for: sounds labeled Fax works fine. Under Tab Communications I normally have it set at 80% reduction. Tested with 'Do nothing', but, no change .. still no dialing/connection sounds.

Just sent a fax and it dialed up, connected/sent and completed successfully. Silently, that is!
