t42 fingerprint problem

#1 Post by snackycat » Tue Jun 14, 2005 9:05 pm

recently I got a new notebook 2373-Q1U and it seems to be working great except the fingerprint reading machine is flaky it takes me 30 tries to recognize my fingers i registered 10 just to be on the safe side. i cant call IBM for service because i have no warrenty left on my machine (its a long story ) what am i doing wrong i slowly swipe my fingers down and it fails my boyfriend said it might be cause i have tiny hands and low blood temp thats why the biometrics can't read my fingers but that sounds screwy  my hands are spotless and i dont eat or smoke near my notebook i dont know are there any pointers on this i am ready to just bypass this cool feature thank you for any help

When you register your finger, did you try rolling from left to right instead of just touching it?

Is your finger too dry? Not enough moisture can be an issue.

Another shot in the dark, try updating the fingerprint software?

snacky.

I still have problems with my fingerprint reader, but not as much as I used to, which was very similar with what you're going through.

I have the exact same model as you do.

What I do now is while I swipe my finger, at a moderate to slow rate, just as I'm getting to the upper part of the fingertip, I raise my hand and slow down the swipe until I stop it at the end.

This has given me a better reading, and I rarely swipe it more thatn 4 times.

What gives me problems is when I have washed my hands. I usually have to rub my fingers or rub my forehead, and that seems to do the trick.

Hope this helps.

p.s. My native language is Spanish, maybe my explanation of how I do the fingerprint reading isn't well written. I'll try to explain it better.

snacky,

Yesterday I tried to setup my wifes fingerprints so she can also have access to this machine. she had same problem it took 10 scans to setup one fingerprint we gace up for second (right middle).
but for me it works well .... slide finger only once.

putyour finger little above the reader so tip is close to keyboard and then slide your finger slowly vertically down. don't put pressure becasue if your finger moves horizontally even very little it does invalidate the fingre print.

try using thumb might help too.

On some machines, the fingerprinter reader will not work while the Thinkpad docked. IBM has acknowledged this problem, tried to fix it, and has failed.

Other users have reported intermittent problems when the machine is plugged in to wall power. I also have a 2373Q1U and the reader works fine when plugged into wall power, but never while docked.

Undock and unplug your machine, and try the fingerprint reader again. Does it work any better?[/url]
