Media file not found after recovery

#1 Post by joyrock » Fri Dec 16, 2016 8:16 am

Hello fellows,

Due to being really slow, I initiated a recovery on my ThinkPad Edge 15, 03192CG. Up until then it worked fine, with the exception of the processing speed.
After the recovery was done with the original 4 recovery disks, the Laptop is now starting up with the Lenovo logo and then, after logging a media file error, posts the message "Operating System not found".
What I tried without success:
Changed boot order in "Boot" and "Network" in the BIOS Setup Utility to No. 1 = ATT HDD0.
Checked Date and Time in the BIOS Utility to eliminate BIOS battery failure: date and time are showing correctly.

I am at the end of what I can do and really appreciate any help!

Thank you!

Sounds as if your hard drive is failing.
T510 i5, T510 i7 4349-A64 - T520 i7 4242-4UU, technically a CTO now.

T520: i7-2760QM(2.40GHz),16GB RAM, 500GB SSD/500GB 7200 RPM Drive, 15.6in 1600x900 LCD, 1GB NVIDIA, DVDRW, Smartcard reader, media card reader, FPR, Win7 Pro64, whitelist BIOS, Ultimate-N 6300 AGN, German KB, Bluetooth 4.0.

Or, the recovery process was not completed. I have not used recovery media in a long, long time. And never on an Edge product. But, the process used to involve restoring the recovery partition using the disks, then restoring the system from the partition. Is it still done that way? Maybe you've only done the first step.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Hi Neil,
I followed the instructions in the recovery booklet with one exception.
The very first step, before inserting the first recovery CD, should have been to set "OS Optimized Defaults" to "Disabled" in the BIOS Setup Utility.
Since I couldn't find that Option, I continued with the rest of the recovery process.
There were no problems or errors during the switcheroo of the 4 disks.

Hard drive could be failing.
If you have a desktop PC, you can connect the laptop's hard drive there and run a few diagnostics.
Daily driver: X220 4291-P79 i5-2520M

In reserve: X61 T7500, X60 T2300
In pieces: X60s CS U1300 [board only], two retired but working X61Ts
RIP: 760XD 9546-U9E

It passed, so what now? Do you think it might be worth a try to remove the BIOS battery?
...no success..
