Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
@carcuevas, @technopanda: can you share a source for the LVDS cable? One of mine are wrong from the get-go (probably went wrong in the repair shop). It's 180 degrees bent. Effects are flashy to blank screen. I could make it work though I even dread using the keyboard now. @nitrocaster may be able to send one though not sure about the postage costs?carcuevas wrote: Well I order some samples for the FFC, I think the problematic is as you said the LVDS, the FCC cables have a limit for flexing, after this limit they cannot assure it's not working, the one I orderr now they resists 20 times 180 degrees let's see how they will work... they should arrive soon
Off topic, probably I should ask it on eGPU reddit... If my expresscard is plugged in, the machine won't go past POST. Tried removing battery and hard-resetting by pressing the power for 30 seconds. It worked once (simple laptop overheating?) but then I made the mistake of running the eGPU without the external power source on. Worked for 2-3 hours and eGPU got disconnected again. So, I suspect it may have drawn too much power from the express card slot and fried that? The machine boots fine without the express card + the same setup (Beast v8 + GTX1060) is working fine on my W520. Once I replace the LVDS cable I may retry but not willing to risk my other X230..

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
Hi seasonshu, actually I got mines as a sample from here http://katalog.we-online.de/en/em/FFC_0 ... 1486638987 specifically the 28pins reference: 687728050002 , it's just maybe my impression but it looks for me that they are a bit more quality ones than the one I got... About prices and so I cannot tell, I just got a couple of them as samples, since I could not find any Wurth distributor for electronics here in Czech Republic...

@seasonshu I don't have any issue with the internal LVDS cable in my X230. Sorry I can't provide any helpful information about where to getting a replacement cable.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
Just out of curiosity, are there any differences between batch 2 and batch 1, either from a software or hardware perspective?

4th revision has separate power rail for LCD logic and more convenient aux power pad placement. Regarding the firmware - I don't plan anything yet, but we'll see.theterminator93 wrote:any differences between batch 2 and batch 1, either from a software or hardware perspective

Actually UK or not, the delivery charges are extraorbitant. Farnell being the 'best' with £2.42+£3.95 shipping. Maybe I should ask for a 'sample' from Wurth (ehm, if I am honest, maybe they won't mind?)
So am I looking for "FFC Flat Cable, Standard 28-pin, 0.5mm Pitch, 50mm Length, Opposite sided contacts" (did I missing anything?) (or, up to 100mm).

There are plenty more FFC options in the UK, but most have a lousy, nondescript website that gives you zilch useful information.
Google with: ffc cable, uk
and try calling them.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
You can add win0win's AliExpress shop to the list of recommended sellers.
I asked for and got two LP125WF2-SPB4 for $59 each incl. shipping.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/B125HAN ... 29067.html
I installed one in my i5 x220 and it is working perfectly except brightness fixed at 65% when running on battery (fixed by uninstalling Lenovo power something something).
The other was for my i7 x220. No picture. Troubleshooting, no picture. Tried the other FHD panel, no picture. Old panel back, no picture. Troubleshooting, fuse f12 32V 1A blown

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
Thanks for letting us know @nitrocaster
I was wondering how well this mod will likely work with hackintosh macOS Sierra?
It is completely equivalent to plugging in a 1080p monitor into the DisplayPort port on the dock while the laptop is docked, right?
If so, then there should be no trouble at all.

It's eqivalent to plugging in a 1080p monitor into the DisplayPort on the dock and using dual display confiruration with mirroring.

This program adds its icon to the system tray. Its menu is pretty much self-explanatory and straightforward.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p
Truthfully, even if Nitrocaster makes a 3rd batch, selling them on ebay will be very easy. There was a kit on there a few weeks ago, 3 of them I believe and they were selling for a bit more than what he is asking.
I would possibly even consider two, depending how the first install goes.

So, any chance to get this for X220 tablet? How many touch points will the modded display have, if it's possible?

Probably no. Replacing the LCD is too tricky, because it's glued to the protective glass.Starlight5 wrote:So, any chance to get this for X220 tablet? How many touch points will the modded display have, if it's possible?
