x220 tablet screen stopped working
x220 tablet screen stopped working
Hi All,
After starting up my x220 tablet today the screen will no longer come on. If I dock the machine and use it with external screens all other functions are fine. No idea what prompted this.
A year or so ago I had a similar issue with a different x220 that was my own fault, where I plugged in the LCD cable while the power was on, which blew a fuse on the motherboard and made the backlight go out. This time I have made no such mistake, so I am unsure of how to know if the problem is with the screen itself or the motherboard. Any way to tell?
Besides this, I have tried pulling out the battery and replacing, and running from only A/C or only battery power, to no avail. Are there any other quick solutions?
Thanks for reading.

Re: x220 tablet screen stopped working
Check both ends of the LCD cable, that they are properly connected.
Check the fuses.
Hit Fn/F7 a few times.

Hello RBS. Thanks for replying. I tried the fn+f7 thing before, no dice. I will open it up soon to reseat the cables. For the fuses is there any diagram indicating which ones to check? Is there any reason why they would fail randomly?
Thank you
Thank you

Maybe weird suggestion but... did you try to point a strong flashlight at the screen, to see if it's just the backlight being off ? (with a flashlight, images would show)

Google for Lenovo X220 tablet schematics.
Re: x220 tablet screen stopped working
Hi All,
Thanks as usual. I found the fuses 1,2 and 6 on the board which were mentioned elsewhere. They all seem to be not-blown. I do not have a very good flashlight available but placing the laptop under the brightest light around and turning it on, I am not able to see any images. Also, re-seating the connections did not have any effect. Any other test I can do to narrow it down or should I just buy a new screen and mobo?
Thanks for reading and have a great Christmas / holiday!

Re: x220 tablet screen stopped working
Hello again. Hope you all had a great holiday time.
I obtained a new screen recently and that seems to fix the issue. Is there any way to replace the backlight on the screen or some other issue that could be the problem? I noticed that some other posts mentioned the open/close lid sensor could be at fault.
