T60's keyboard spacebar is balky

#1 Post by Muse » Mon Jan 02, 2017 1:06 pm

This T60 machine's spacebar isn't working perfectly. Quite often no space is recorded and I need to go back and edit. Can I just remove it and blow out dust? Does that usually fix that? It says "Chicony" on the keyboard (I noticed that when I had it removed from the system).

The spacebar is a really easy key to pop out, then you can try cleaning under it. I'd start from the bottom edge and apply an upwards pressure, you should hear clicks as the plastic clips disengage. Other manufacturer keyboards may be different.
Daily driver: lenovo T500 P9700, WUXGA, 8GB
Ultraportable: IBM lenovo X60s
Home theater: lenovo T420

Thanks, I'll try that. I presume I can do this without removing the keyboard from the machine. For safety's sake, I'll turn off the machine first.

Seems OK now... thanks! I think there are other problem keys. Have to keep track. Hard to tell sometimes if I just missed hitting a key or if it's balky. Gotta keep score.
