WTB 770 in good condition - UK/Europe only

#1 Post by akebia » Tue Jan 03, 2017 6:39 pm

Hi, as in the title, I'm looking to buy a fully working 770 (any model, though preferably a later one with >=64mb ram). I'm willing to pay up to £100 for one in the right condition. Any useful modifications are fine (e.g. cf card disk, if that's even possible on 770s). I'm happy to buy from European sellers, but only if the keyboard layout is UK or possibly US.

Thinkpad will be going to a good home. I'm planning to use it daily.

Thanks

I would say you should look for later models if you plan to use it as a dvd player. earlier models do not have the decoder card therefore not possible. Also there are different screen sizes too for 700X and 700Z so beware for that. Some of them have 1280x1024 display if you are lucky. Also for the DVD player you have to put stuff onto the center where it spins the disc in order to get the disc height correct. (because only DVD video discs are at the right height)
Sorry I only have a 770ED in rough condition with a broken motherboard (blown out capacitors) but everything else including decoder, XGA LCD and dvdrom working

Actually the dvd player is the one thing I don't really care about. If it's broken, it's fine. Basically I have a 600X which I love and use daily, but unfortunately it gives out a chemically smell when turned on that is apparently common to all the 600 series when they age. So I guess one final caveat for the machine should be "mustn't smell bad"

Well my 600 is working fine while my 770ed died on me. I guess opposite experience then
Also one positive point to 600 series is that the dvd player is not hard to get. You can swap a Ultrabay 2000/plus device's connector with your current ultraslimbay disc drive and both of them work just fine in their respective machines! That's how I have a cd burner inside my 600
