Extra RAM problem on T43

#1 Post by Machster28 » Sun Jan 08, 2017 12:57 pm

I have installed 1GB RAM stick in the bottom of the laptop for a total 2GB. Once in a while the system doesn't see it and it boots up seeing just the internal 1GB stick. When this occurs the additional RAM isn't recognized until I open the back panel and re-sit the stick.

Question: Is it more likely a problem with the RAM itself or the board it connects to?

Swap the DIMMs around and see what happens.

Also you are out of luck if you have ddr2 800mhz sticks.
Swap the sticks and run memory diagnostic

T43 runs on DDR2 533 and I have been using any OEM brand like micron, elpida, samsung, Hynix etc at any speeds from 533, 667 and 800 with no issues. 1Rx8 and 2Rx8 are fine.

Clean contacts by rubbing action on both memory modules with folded up bit of paper torn from typing paper (LOL). This will not develop electrical charge. I have done this all the time. Dust clean up for anything else including finned heatsinks, dusting fans, I use natural bristle art-painter fan brush.
