Expresscard to SCSI device? Need DB25 connection
Expresscard to SCSI device? Need DB25 connection
Just curious what might be a good and cheap one, i have a scsi device which uses an older program to send program data over SCSI. Back in the day I did this with a pci card and still have it but would rather use a TP than set up an ancient tower. thank you!

Re: Expresscard to SCSI device? Need DB25 connection
If EC SCSI adapters exist they are very rare. I saw a reference to a "DeLock" Ultra2 SCSI adapter but haven't found any English-language info on it yet and it doesn't seem to exist on the manufacturer's site so probably discontinued. A USB-to-SCSI adapter might be better for you since something with a DB25 is probably very low-end SCSI. Might not work for your specific app though just as USB-to-RS232 doesn't always work.
EDIT: Or find an adapter to use PCCards in ExpressCard slots and use 16 or 32-bit PCCard SCSI. I have several Adaptec 1460 cards that I have used in the past.

Hmm, nothing i could run natively on a T60 then? Maybe I will have to get an older machine together.

Re: Expresscard to SCSI device? Need DB25 connection
I once used one of these to connect a SCSI scanner and a CD burner: adaptec.com/en-us/support/_eol/scsi_port_cardbus/apa-1480b.
Not for Expresscard but Cardbus, though. But i had no complains working with it back then, especially since it worked ok in Linux.
You should be able to find one on one of the usual auction web sites.

Re: Expresscard to SCSI device? Need DB25 connection
Bit off-topic:
I use an "antique" Agfa Snapscan 1236s flatbed scanner, which is attached to an equally "antique" Adaptec AVA-2904 SCSI card (PCI) in my desktop.
Scanner and card date from last century(!) and the "newest" original software (Agfa ScanWise) from 2001.
And yet: scanner, SCSI and software run perfect under Windows 7-Pro 64-bit.
I use that scanner at least hundred times per year!
So thumbs up for SCSI!

Doesn't the T60 have both CardBus and ExpressCard slots? If so you could use the Adaptec 1460 or 1480 cards.excal32 wrote:Hmm, nothing i could run natively on a T60 then? Maybe I will have to get an older machine together.

It most certainly does. Lower slot is CardBus, upper is ExpressCard.jdrou wrote:Doesn't the T60 have both CardBus and ExpressCard slots? Re: Expresscard to SCSI device? Need DB25 connection
If I can find it, I think I have a parallel port to SCSI adapter. These were hard to find and very expensive part that came in handy to connect any SCSI device to a parallel port. I used them to connect cdrom drives to laptops and computers to install software back when no all computers had an optical disc, and installing an OS from floppy discs was not fun, then one damaged disc and it fails... so it was invaluable, but not very useful today. Of course it wasn't a good option to run harddrives, but worked good enough to transfer files, run a cdrom, scanner, ect, and with SCSI you can connect upto 7 devices chained to one adapter.
I also have some SCSI cards, harddrives, external cdroms, etc.

Re: Expresscard to SCSI device? Need DB25 connection
Only (small) problem: the T60 does not have a physical parallel port.
You first need to find (and install) an exceedingly rare and expensive Ultrabay adapter with Serial/Parallel ports...

@RealBlackStuff: Beside Serial + Parallel Port Ultrabay adapter he can also use an proper docking station.

Yes and docking stations for the T60 series are very cheap these days, and I have received some of mine for nothing due to being included in Thinkpad Ebay listings, e.g. the laptop is the usual price.
