help me with my fathers day present please! (techinical)

#1 Post by corleone » Wed Jun 15, 2005 4:58 pm

I have an old SONY Video 8 camcorder. The camera has an RCA cable that i can hook up to my TV to watch video. How can i hook this up to my T42 so that i can edit and maybe even convert the video to a DVD?

I am really interested in capturing some video of my gramps who recently passed for my dad fo rfathers day. Any help that you can provide before sunday would be tremendous to my cause!

Thank you
corey

You will need an external video capture box that hooks up to the USB port. I'm not sure how the audio will be captured since the T4x do not have a line-in jack. Perhaps through the microphone jack?

Far easier to get a standalone dvd recorder and hook up your camcorder to that. Some dvd recorders are going for less than $150.

I only suggest these methods because Father's Day is coming quickly.

If you can borrow a minidv camcorder,
Connect the analog out from your video 8 camera into the analog in on the minidv camera (mindv camera will convert to digital in passthru mode) and connect via firewire to your Txx if it has a firewire port using a free prog called windv. If it doesn't, you can get a firewire card fairly cheap.
Alternately, you can do this with a computer that has firewire and then network your Txx to it and then move to yours. In all cases the audio will also be transferred.
Plextor makes a decently built and priced usb unit for the method mysbca described.
Or most small computer shops will transfer to dvd fairly cheap for a one shot deal.
Good Luck
