X220 Lid Closure Sensors?
X220 Lid Closure Sensors?
Hi All
Ive recently replaced the lid on my old X220 and I think somethings gone wrong. The laptop now doesn't sleep etc when I close the lid? I replaced the two magnets in either corner of the lid but maybe I have the poles facing the wrong direction?
Can anyone shed some light on this subject????

Re: X220 Lid Closure Sensors?
X220 does not have magnets in corners. The only magnet is built in the speaker bar. The sensor is located near the camera and should trigger when you put a magnet close to it.

Re: X220 Lid Closure Sensors?
The X220 does have rectangular magnets at the top corners of the screen bezel, and corresponding square ones at the bottom corners of the base, these are so the lid stays shut, as there is no physical catch as with X200s/T410 and earlier.
However, none of those are relevant to the lid closure detection. There is a sensor near the top centre of the screen bezel, and an additional magnet in the bottom middle of the base. The sensor should detect proximity to the magnet i.e. when lid closed. I have not replaced an entire lid myself so don't know what procedure you have to go through to reconnect all the cables correctly.
I had the opposite issue after a screen swap that a stray hair was on the sensor causing it to trigger too often. Removing hair fixed that.

Re: X220 Lid Closure Sensors?
Thanks, I will have to have a look, I have replaced both the lid AND the base, I have got the sensor in the same position as it was on the old lid but I cant remember seeing the bottom magnet. Will pull it apart (Again) and see what i've missed

Re: X220 Lid Closure Sensors?
Indeed. I was disassembling another X220 today and saw these two little magnets. Haven't seen them yet, though. Are there some different chassis revisions?

Re: X220 Lid Closure Sensors?

Re: X220 Lid Closure Sensors?
The square silver lid-sensor-magnet sits at the front of the base, between the speakers, about 6-1/2"(17cm) from the left.
Remove the palmrest to see it.
The sensor itself is in the lid, on the unit that holds the webcam.

Re: X220 Lid Closure Sensors?
It works!
Thanks all, it was the magnet in the speaker bar that was missing, bought a 2nd hand unit off ebay with the magnet still fitted and it now works perfectly.
Just to wait for the FHD mod to arrive and my superfast thinkpad will be finished!
