My favorite tool for "repairing" those "fruity" things:

I don't get Rossman and I am put off by him.
He dislikes the company Apple, but he always fixes Apple products.
He doesn't have to but he does.
He was scared a few months back because he said Apple was going to take down his channel.
However, he showed and uploaded scans of (I think) repair manuals and procedures that were proprietary at the time and was considered confidential (or stolen if shared/uploaded) and should be used only by Apple employees.
I think they layed off his case later on. But for the most part Apple is just leading on to what most manufacturers want nowdays; replacement by upgrade, not refurbish or repair.
I wouldn't doubt there will be self repair of these devices.
I'd argue the Apple community is maybe the fourth in enthusiast DIY repair, to me it is as it woul\d be ranked with Windows, Amiga, ThinkPads, and then Apple.
But I find it silly to be done by someone who hates the company, its core values and not an enthusiast.
For someone who doesn't like sheeple Apple customers, he sure does love to cattle that crowd if they are out of warranty.
Granted his skill is very good, but he seems to cater to the "disliking Apple crowd who wants an Apple computer" type of people.

His shop is in Manhattan. He's now a minor celeb. I bet there's legions of people who drop off their Macbooks and he does a roaring trade fixing them.
He's always said he doesnt fix other stuff because the money isnt there. No one asks him to fix a Lenovo because they're all cheap b*stards (search your heart, you know this is true).
To be fair, I dont hate on Rossman. He's found a niche and he's a capitalist. What did you expect?
Re: Dire warning for FRUIT, to finally start making HMMs
I have watched his videos since his channel had only around 3k subscribers. He seems like an honest, hard working guy with a great sense of humor.

find his rant about how a t520 is more portable and usable than a mac air....TonyJZX wrote:He's always said he doesnt fix other stuff because the money isnt there. No one asks him to fix a Lenovo because they're all cheap b*stards (search your heart, you know this is true).

Yes, you know this is red meat for the people here who think the 220/420/520 is the last of the 'true' Lenovos with some IBM dna.palerider wrote:find his rant about how a t520 is more portable and usable than a mac air....TonyJZX wrote:He's always said he doesnt fix other stuff because the money isnt there. He likes the old keyboard, he likes how the old Lenovo format fits him. He's not wrong there.
Re: Dire warning for FRUIT, to finally start making HMMs
He is right how he says a T520 is more usable than a mac, since it has a real keyboard and a trackpoint. In regards to portability, the mac is obviously smaller and lighter than the thinkpad, but using the thinkpad while holding it up is much easier than the mac. The extended battery is a very stable point for gripping (horizontally), and you can easily use the trackpoint with the other hand. I have tried this with my W530 and a mac I had to use at work.palerider wrote:find his rant about how a t520 is more portable and usable than a mac air....TonyJZX wrote:He's always said he doesnt fix other stuff because the money isnt there. Even most of the business class Dell laptop/desktops have full hmm. I think even the newest ThinkPads have hmms as well

This is all pretty silly. How maintainable can a laptop be when the battery is glued in,
as shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fupkPz55tUo
I'll bet that the ram is soldered in, too. Not such a smart thing to do
with a component that has a 7% annual failure rate!

Well if the fruit logo is a brain, then it has a chunk missing. Might explain their unwisely decision.
The only acceptable use for a MacBook is to shop for a Thinkpad.
