T460 and portability in college

#1 Post by Varrock » Sat Jan 28, 2017 3:12 pm

I have a question regarding the T460 and it's portability. Will I have issues putting this laptop on a desk in college and transporting it to classes? For some reason, I'm envisioning this to be a really abnormally large laptop. I almost wonder if a X260 would be better, but from the reviews I've read, a T460 is better for business related activities and overall performance, and I'm a business major that will be entering the consulting or IT field after college in a year.

Doubtful. An X260 will have a footprint roughly identical to that of a standard sheet of notebook paper (about an inch wider but slightly narrower and at about 3 pounds), whereas the T460 will be about 1/2" deeper and 2" wider than a said sheet of paper. It weighs about 4 lbs.

The X260 will be lighter and smaller - but the sacrifices are usually screen selection and the assortment of ports (I've worked with T460s, but not X260s, so I can't give my personal opinion on one vs. the other). If you do a lot of stuff that requires looking at the screen or would benefit a larger screen area, a 14" T460 may have screen options that are better suited for that than the X260. Only viewing/using the two in person will allow you to know for certain though.

Appreciate the response. My other worry is that I will have a tough time putting it in my literal lap. Is this a laptop I can work with sitting on a bench/couch?

Yep. I can snap a pic of a T460 in common environments possibly tomorrow or Tuesday, and I can bring my X220 along so you can see the size difference (the X260 will have dimensions similar to the X260, but probably be a bit thinner).

That would be awesome. I really appreciate it. I'm thinking it will serve me well, but it's always good to get an extra look beforehand.
