I have found a T41p with toast motherboard in a computer store for $5 and only recently I have planted a spare T43 motherboard in. I don't know what is shorting inside the T41p casing but if I connect the charger and then shut it down, I CANNOT turn it back on if I do not disconnect the charger. After that it turns on just fine either with charger connected or disconnected and it does not have any weird behaviors when the system is on with charger and without charger either.
I am sure this is not the motherboard issue. The only reason that motherboard was left spare was because I upgraded my daily driver into T43p motherboard. Also I tried that T43p motherboard into the same casing before, same thing happens.
Or is it because of that PCMCIA cage? Since it was a T41p casing, it has the wrong PCMCIA cage; the connectors aren't the same and don't line up too so I just left the PCMCIA cage in there with its screws on for a good look on the outside

Re: ThinkPad T43/p in T41p casing - cannot turn back on after shutdown with charger left plugged
You can't use a T40/1/2 or R50/1 cage (or RAM or CPU) on a T43/R52 mobo.
Take that cage out and try again.
If still the same problem, something is wrong in the T43 charging circuit, probably a blown Mosfet.

Yes I know that part. Actually CPU works just fine (when I was short of CPUs I used a 735 in a T43 and boots just fine) but it converts a Sonoma platform to regular 400mhz Dothan so no I dont want thatRealBlackStuff wrote:You can't use a T40/1/2 or R50/1 cage (or RAM or CPU) on a T43/R52 mobo.
I'll take out the cage and retry. Not likely a blowm charging circuit because my T43p motherboard in that casing had the same problem and problem solved after me transplanting it into my 15" casingRealBlackStuff wrote:Take that cage out and try again.
