Does the T410/420s non S pass hdmi audio in Win7 & 10?
Does the T410/420s non S pass hdmi audio in Win7 & 10?
I occasionally need to use these units on an LCD monitor or TV.
I have 2 x 410, 1 x 420 and 1 x 420s.
Only tested the 420s on Win7 and it won't pass audio. I suspect it might be the Intel driver. Its not an nvidia model.
Ironically my ancient Dell 6400 on Win10 passes audio fine. I suspect the Win10 driver might make hdmi audio stream more seamless.
I use a DP to HDMI dongle.

I have a T420s with Win10 and confirm that hdmi audio can be passed via Displayport to HDMI dongle/cable/adapter.
I hook up my T420s to my TV all the time to watch movies...no issues with the above setup.
Same goes for T430s with Win10 (just that it is mini-DP to HDMI)..

Using the latest WIn7 Lenovo intel video driver I get picture but no sound.
Since there's no new driver, I'm pretty much stuck.

Not all adapters are equally made...
Yours might work on one, but not on the other.

In Windows you might have to open Audio settings and enable the TV's speakers.

Problem is that doesnt come up as an option.
Normally you get a "HDMI audio" option or whatever.
I only get the std. Connexant whatever 3.5mm stereo option.
I dont consider this a huge problem for myself as obviously I just pull out another laptop that does work but I might try my full size 410 420 and see what happens.
Its incongruous to me as a 2008 Dell does fine but a 2012 or whatever this 420 is doesnt work?

Re: Does the T410/420s non S pass hdmi audio in Win7 & 10?
It works on all the above models.
My experience has been that the standard HD audio driver that Windows will install will not always work. If you install the Intel driver (and it appears as 'Intel Display Audio' under 'Sound, video and game controllers') then it should work.
Just tried it with my T410, Win7, and a random HDMI projector with audio capabilities.
My driver is 6.12.00.3065 from 21/Jun/2010, provided by Intel. T420 will have different drivers. I don't have a T420/s but I have an X220, which uses the same Intel HD Graphics/Audio, and I can confirm it works with no issues on Win7 and Win8.1.
Whatever is causing your issue, it is not a lack of fundamental capability. The machines are cable of doing audio via their DisplayPort++, 100%.
