T60 BAD Bios flash (Still in Windows, havent rebooted)

#1 Post by Sokre2000 » Mon Feb 06, 2017 5:25 am

Hi!

Well, something stucked while flashing bios and now i am in the mud.

I havent restarted the laptop but after reading Bios in CPU-z the bios name and details are missing.

I used windows 7 bios 32bit utility which stopped after backing up old bios, whick i stored on the safe place. After that it crashed, not responding etc., not sure if i ended it or something else:

This is what utility says now:

Dont know what to do if i am honest. I am flashing BIOSes 10 years, had bad flashes on ATi X850XT PE and all kind of graphic cards, i know how to force flash without screen etc., but this, i dont know what to do.

Help!

The laptop is dead.

People, be careful when updating bios, i would only recomend bootable usb/cd with utility.

1. Did you run the BIOS flashing program with Administrator priviledges?
2. Did you turn off the Antivirus before running the BIOS flashing program?

This can still be fixed, if you have an external flash programmer.

Flashrom is a program to flash your bios with a small computer called a flasher. Raspberry Pi, Arduino and Beagle Bone Black are cheap microprocessors which you can use.

Maybe someone you know has one of these devices. If so, this page gives steps for flashing a T60: https://libreboot.org/docs/install/

Or, buy a motherboard.

Is Raspberry Pi - Model B any good?

Results:

I Bought Rasbp Pi B
Installed flashrom
Connected everything and it works
Erased old BIOS
Attempted writing bios and got error 2055kb(original bios.bak backup file from time when i was doing update in windows) vs 2048kb BIOS size mismatch.

I cant find 2048kb size bios anywhere and it seems that is factory image rom...

I have everything to setup bios flash but it seems to me that this cannot be done, the bios file(2048kb) is needed to do libreboot.rom too.

BTW raspberry bios flash rocks.( I have to be positive, all day i am typing sudo this sudo that, first time playing with linux etc.)
