Middleton BIOS for T60 Wide Screen

#1 Post by WarMachine » Wed Feb 08, 2017 4:54 am

Hello,

I've bought a nice Wide Screen T60 (8744-5BU) yesterday. I've an old 80 GB Hitachi hard disk at 5400 rpm inside, and I plan to replace it with an SSD. I know that the Middleton BIOS allows to use our Thinkpads more efficiently by activating SATA 3 Gb/s speeds. But after some searches, it seems that the T60 is not concerned :

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Middleton%27s_BIOS

Is this Wiki complete ? Are there no other ressources elsewhere on the web ? I saw on a german forum that the T60 hadn't any Middleton BIOS for it.

Can you confirm ?

Thank you very much ! :)

W.

Middleton's BIOS is for T/R/X61 series only. For T60 there were Zender's BIOSes for removing whitelists. I am not sure there was a version for the widescreen, but I think there was.

In any case, you cannot unlock SATA 3Gb/s on a T60, as it's a physical limitation of the ICH7-M chipset. You will still get a nice boost from an SSD, and may even get a small boost from a modern 7200RPM hard drive. My T60 started feeling much snappier during boot and some other specific tasks when the stock 120GB 5400RPM drive was replaced with a several years younger 320GB 7200RPM drive.

Yes, there is a version for WS T60, I used it a couple of years ago, not quite certain whether I have it saved somewhere or not. Will look into that, probably over the weekend.

Hello,

Thank you for your answers ! Very appreciated, as usual.
It's nice if there's a Middleton BIOS for the T60 wide screen. If it's not interesting with an hard disk, it will be very pleasant with an SSD. It's difficult to use an hard drive nowadays, when most of the PCs have SSDs. I'm discovering my new machine. It's really big and that was a reason why I didn't want to have one, but the price was very attractive, and the seller gave me an ultrabase so I can't complain. It's very confortable, and I could almost us it as my desktop replacement ! :)
With all the machines I have, I think I could take some lovely photos to make a book ! :D

I should've been clearer:

There is no Middleton's BIOS for these machines. My reference was to Zender's.

Thanks for the precision. I effectively misunderstood your previous answer. I read a little on Zender BIOS, but it seems that it's made to get rid of the wireless cards whitelist. I'm not particularly concerned by that. I don't want to change the one I have. It's already an n card, with no problems, and the rest of my wireless network is also at the n standard.

I should have a camera very soon, I will be able to take the photos quickly. :)
