90W adapter on 135W thinkpad

#1 Post by angrypig7 » Wed Feb 15, 2017 7:14 pm

I have a thinkpad E560p, which is a quad core I7 model with GTX960m, and it came with a 135W adapter.
I would like to get a 90W adapter for traveling since 135W one is pretty bulky.
If I buy the same slim tip adapter, would it work??
Lenovo wouldn't tell me whether it would work or not since E560p isn't distributed by them to my country officially.

Some people say that it might slow my thinkpad down. I don't understand how that happens,
but I really don't care since all I need is my battery not dying when scrolling through the web.

I think it will work but if you had slowdowns it would be because it throttled lower your CPU. I think you will be fine and it is better to always have your battery fitted.
I wouldn't connect an an external HD and charge your phone and connect a camera to the USB port at the same time as you are playing an intensive game.
For travelling and web browsing and light gaming you will be fine.
