#1 Post by Vankata » Wed Feb 22, 2017 11:24 am

Hello,
i need help with that mSata - ADATA Premier Pro SP310 64GB.
Could you explane me how to use it like a cache?

Do i need to edit settings in BIOS?
Do i need some software and drivers to do that?
What is the procedure, step by step?

Thanks

First off, what operating system (Windows Vista, 7, Linux) are you using?
Daily driver: X220 4291-P79 i5-2520M

In reserve: X61 T7500, X60 T2300
In pieces: X60s CS U1300 [board only], two retired but working X61Ts

To be completely honest, it might be better to just install Windows 7 directly on that 64GB SSD rather than use it as a cache.

If you still want to use it as a cache, you can download and install Expresscache.

Alternatively, use Windows 7's ReadyBoost feature

hasnt it been long been known that readyboost doesnt provide such a decent performance improvement

you want a real solution? get sufficient ram and install the o/s on an ssd.

I already suggested installing the OS on the SSD on my first post. :D

I'm using a Kingston MS200 60GB mSATA SSD (56GB usable) for both Windows 7 and Linux. It's split 40GB/16GB Windows/Linux, and it works because I use Linux primarily so the WIndows partition doesn't get the change to accumulate bloat like temp files and OS update downloads.

60GB is workable partition size for a Windows 7 install, but you need to monitor your free space, and perform cleanup (CCleaner and Windows' own Disk Cleanup program) when it gets low (< 4GB I guess).

I made it. I am with 8 GB Ram 1333 /dual/ 2x4 GB - it is okay for my needs...

In fact i never clone disk drives. I mean C (on HDD) to mSATA SSD. Do i need to do clean install on the SSD?

I will be very thankful if you tell me how to do it...step by step..
Thanks

Yes. Clean install is recommended.

I don't use recovery discs when installing though. I create a backup of the software license of the existing Windows installation, install with a slightly modified Windows install disc, then reapply the license afterward.

Do i need to remove the HDD when i am doing the clean install? Is there some conflicts? (SSD / HDD)?

I prefer removing the HDD during the install, to minimize confusion (you might end up formatting the HDD instead).
Add the HDD after installing all drivers, just make sure to set the mSATA SSD as the first boot device.
In case the SSD suddenly fails, the old Windows installation on the HDD will be your insurance basket.

Good to know! Thanks for the advice!

I made it by "System clone" - so far, so good.
Thanks
